base-cms, the CMS for client websites
The block-based CMS I use for my clients' websites. This site is built with it.
The problem
A small business or an organisation needs a website they can update on their own, in two languages, without calling a developer for every comma and without being tied to a platform they do not control.
Common site builders are either too rigid or demand technical skills. I wanted a tool I can hand over to people who do not code, and that keeps working, and stays secure, after the handover.

What I built
- 01
Blocks instead of free-form pages
More than forty block types (text, cards, pricing, maps, FAQs…) with precise rules: the client composes pages without being able to break them.
- 02
Editing on the page
You change the text right where it appears, with a preview and publishing when you are ready.
- 03
Italian and English, with help
Assisted translation and an AI assistant that proposes changes; nothing changes until a person approves.
- 04
Analytics without personal data
Visits, sessions, a funnel towards the contact page and Search Console queries, without storing IP addresses or user agents.
- 05
One site per client
Each client has their own site and data, on Docker, with constant attention to security.
My role
My own project from the start: written specifications and decisions, backend, editing interface, release and maintenance. I use it on client sites.
Technologies
Python · Django · django-ninja · Nuxt 4 · Vue · TypeScript · Docker · PostgreSQL
I wrote down what the CMS does not do and why. This simplified both the code and the discussions with clients. With the AI assistant I saw that what matters most is being able to check and undo what it proposes.
A site with this CMS
The CMS starts at 600 euro. No lock-in: the technology is open source and your data stays yours, exportable whenever you want.
